Israel and Lebanon are set for historic talks. But almost no one believes they’ll succeed

Rare, bilateral talks between senior Lebanese and Israeli officials set for Tuesday in Washington could pave the way for a ceasefire — but almost no one appears to believe that will happen. There is dismay and a feeling of hopelessness across Lebanon as it reels from the aftermath of Israel’s ferocious attack on Wednesday that killed over 300 people.
